Cardmaker is my go-to tool for creating 3x3 grids of poker-sized cards on one sheet of paper with no spaces. While some people opt for using MTG commons and lands, I buy card decks from thrift stores or dollar stores for a buck to use as backers. If needed, I can always reuse the sleeves.

For quick card prototyping, I recommend using an Excel data merge program, which allows me to make changes quickly and easily. Typing is faster than writing for me, and it's much faster to make changes later on. Even for the first playtest, I print cards using this method.
